Introducing the Latest Porsche Panamera 4S and What it Offers

June 9, 2017 lacarguy Pacific Porsche Tags: , , ,

When the original Cayenne was released in back in ’03 there was screaming in the streets. 911 owners all over the country were infuriated that their brand of choice was being tainted, and that Porsche would stoop so low as to offer an SUV to customers. They didn’t think about how insanely profitable the Cayenne would be for Porsche or how much money it would allow the automaker to put toward development of new sicker cars like the latest special edition 911 Turbo S creations, but they certainly expressed their outrage. They did so for years, even after the market began to get used to the high-end SUV, and then the Panamera came out. This abomination of a vehicle was like a stretched out 911 and nobody heard a peep from the Porsche purists. Perhaps it was because the Cayenne already conditioned them to different vehicles, or maybe a stretched car just isn’t as bad as an SUV. Either way, the Panamera has been a successful vehicle ever since it’s release, and the 2018 Panamera 4S builds on what was good about the first model, while making it much, much better.

2018 Porsche Panamera 4S

Visually Enhanced

The original Panamera has an odd roofline that looked out of place on a Porsche. That’s not the case any longer with the 2018 Panamera. It has a sloping roofline that makes it look like a longer 911 and it’s actually very attractive to look at.

Crazy Power

No this Panamera isn’t pushing 700 HP like the new 911 Turbo is, but the 4S offers 0-60 times in just 4.0 seconds thanks to the powerful twin-turbo 2.9 liter V-6 with a total of 440 HP and 405 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s a real powerhouse that manages top torque at less than 2,000 RPM and it keeps providing the power up through 5,500 RPMs giving it very satisfying performance characteristics. When you decide to spend a bit extra to toss the Sports Chrono package on the Panamera 4S you’ll enjoy a top speed of 179 MPH and a car that doesn’t redline until 6,800 RPM. It’s a beat of a machine and there’s no doubt that it would be a fun track car as well, even with its longer proportions.

One downside that some people will find with the 2018 Panamera 4S is the lack of a manual clutch. It only comes with a highly capable 8-speed PDK transmission, which is ideal for performance and smooth operation, but not so ideal when you want the feel of a real manual transmission. It does come outfitted with a set of paddle shifters though, giving you some control over the smooth-as-silk transmission that’s a real pleasure to drive around.

This car looks beautiful, it handles admirably and it comes equipped with all the features and power that you would expect of a capable Porsche vehicle. That’s exactly why it’s going to sell well for Porsche and why so many executives and high-end car buyers will want one.

The Most Exclusive Porsche Turbo S

June 8, 2017 lacarguy Pacific Porsche Tags: , ,

For most of us the Porsche 911 Turbo S sports car is the ultimate exclusive vehicle. It shows off supreme class and does so in a top-end high performance vehicle that’s ready to take off on the tracks. It’s not the most exclusive Porsche that you can purchase though, and there’s actually a golden special edition version of the Turbo S that’s more exclusive, more powerful and more capable than the original. That’s right, there is a more expensive, nicer looking and more exciting Turbo 911 and it’s worth taking a look at even if you can’t afford that quarter of a million dollar price tag it comes with.

Porsche 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series

It’s Darned Fast

The special edition Porsche Turbo S packs more power than the standard turbo with a whopping 607 HP allowing it to go from 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds and to make a trip to 124 MPH in just 9.6 seconds. The car is slightly faster than the already lightning quick Turbo S, with a 0-60 acceleration time that’s .3 seconds faster. It can also impressively make the climb all the way to 205 MPH, something that you’ll probably only ever achieve while out on a track.

It’s a Gold Porsche

The Turbo S Exclusive Series certainly stands out when looking at it from the outside because it appears to be made from solid gold. That’s right, Porsche decided to give the sports car a Gold-Yellow metallic paint that stands out no matter where you go. That bright vibrant yellow is accented nicely by carbon fiber additions at the trunk, the roof, the side skirts of the vehicle, as well as the rear wing and tailpipes. Sure you could get the special edition Porsche in a few other color options as well, but we suspect that most people will opt for the exclusive gold look to help it stand out. After all, who doesn’t want to look like they’re riding around in a solid gold Porsche?

An Interior That Stands Apart

Just like the exterior of this one-off Turbo Porsche, the inside of the sports car stands out as well. It comes with sports seats that are accented with Gold Yellow metallic stripes and black stitching, just like the contrasting colors on the outside. You’ll witness true luxury when looking at the carbon fiber headliner that’s accented by actual copper stitching that you just don’t see anywhere else.

An Executive Price Tag

So what will you be paying for this decidedly unique and exciting sports car that you just aren’t going to see anywhere else? A whopping $257,500. That’s nearly $70,000 over the standard Turbo S, and that’s not even including the added $6000+ luggage set you can get if you want to match your car while traveling around the country showing it off.

Just 500 of these unique Porsche vehicles are to be sold, and our guess is that they’ll go faster than you expect.

The 2017 Porsche 911 Targa 4S is a High-Performance Celebration of the Past

April 5, 2017 lacarguy Pacific Porsche Tags: , , ,

The 2017 Porsche 911 Targa 4S is an exciting throwback to the original Targa with the same looks, but a whole lot more tech and performance. It’s a modern-day high powered equivalent to the classic car, and it’s exhilarating to drive around. We’ll get into what makes it so special down below, but to really understand what makes the car special you have to drive it for yourself.

2017 porsche 911 targa 4s

It Has the Original Look

The car looks very similar to the original 911 Targa with the same curvaceous rear glass, the same Targa bar and the same overall body shape. Sure it’s not identical, but for a Porsche enthusiast it’s the best you’ll get other than picking up the original vehicle for nostalgia’s sake.

An Advanced Retractable Top

The cloth top on the original Targa couldn’t have been simpler. You unhook a few clips and it pops right off. The modern equivalent of that is an overly-complicated electrical-mechanical matchup that takes nearly 20 seconds to fold down the top under the glass. The plus side of that is that during that time you don’t have to do anything. You press the button and the top folds up and out of the way until you need it again. It’s convenient, you just have to be patient.

A Whole Lot of Power

The modern Targa 4S comes with a massive amount of power. You’ll have 420 HP and 368 lb.-ft. of torque at your disposal thanks to the 3.0 liter twin-turbo flat six under the hood. It’s water cooled and mechanically impressive and the car really hauls down the road because of it. There’s no better feeling than stomping on the pedal and being thrown back against the seat as you literally launch.

Smooth Shifting

The Targa 4S comes standard with a silky 7-speed manual transmission that’s fun to operate, but if you’re not the shifting type, or you want the absolute peak performance, you can upgrade to the seven-speed dual clutch automatic PDK transmission. It gets the job done faster and more smoothly, and you don’t have a clutch pedal to worry about. Either way power distribution is excellent and you’ll climb through the gears without any notable jerks or uneven performance.

Massive Performance Power

Thanks to that oversized engine that I mentioned earlier the 2017 Targa 4S is a serious monster on the track. 0 to 60 happens in just 3.3 seconds, a quarter mile is over in 11.7 seconds and the car stops on a dime with 0 to 60 occurring in just 97 feet. Sure it won’t win any fuel efficiency awards with a 24 MPG combined rating, but it saves fuel better than many other sports cars that you’ll encounter.

If there’s something about the handling of the Porsche that you don’t like, you might be able to modify it to your liking as well. You can change around the drive mode between Sport, Sport + and a small collection of other drive modes to change the steering stiffness, the throttle response and shifting aggression to get you a dynamic that feels right for your situation.

The 911 Targa 4S is a real joy to drive, but it doesn’t come cheap with a base price of just over $123,000. It’s not uncommon for the price tag to climb above $150,000 with options added on, so you have to be comfortable spending heavily to enjoy this car.

The Three Pedal Dance Returns To The Porsche 911 GT3

911 GT3-1 Front Three Quarter

The recent Geneva Motor Show brought welcome news the Porsche faithful and enthusiasts, the “Drivers 911″ the 911 GT3 would once again be offered with a manual transmission!

In an ever increasing world of automation and complication, there comes a time and reason to unplug from it all and get back to basics, or at least as basic can get in this current day and age.  When the 991 GT3 debuted it was hailed as the next great step, save for one thing, the lack of a manual transmission.  The Porsche PDK is a superb transmission, and if the goal is to get around the race track in the quickest time, then there is no better tool to row through the gears.  In the daily commute, stuck in traffic, the PDK also shines saving your left leg in stop and go traffic.

However, there are times when you want to row your own, to truly feel connected to the car and the driving experience, and for that, the best tool for the job is a manual transmission!  If you wanted something close to the GT3 with a manual, you had to be lucky enough to get the 911R, but those were only offered to those who purchased the 918 Spyder, or, if you found one second hand, they started at $500,000 and went up quickly from there.

Porsche heard loud and clear that the faithful still wanted a manual gearbox and now they have responded.  With the 991.2GT3 a six-speed manual returns attached to a 4.0 liter naturally-asperated flat six developing 500 horsepower and 339 lb/ft of torque.  It wasn’t that long ago that 997 Turbo topped out at 450 horsepower, and now, the GT3 brings 500 naturally-asperated horsepower to the dance to sing that glorious song as it approaches it’s near 9,000 rpm redline.

Deliveries of the 991.2GT3 will begin in September, if you’d like to reserve one today, please contact us as these will be very hard to get.

Please have a look at this video as Andreas Preuninger, Porsche GT Project Director, guides DRIVETRIBE’s Features Editor Henry Catchpole around the latest Porsche 911 GT3.

Porsche South Bay Classic Partner Open House

It was a long hard road to get here, but it was worth it.

Not only does Porsche South Bay have a spectacular new home, we are now one of only four Porsche Classic Partner locations in the United States! To celebrate we held an open house, and over 700 people were in attendance for our 60’s themed party! We had an amazing display of classic Porsche’s including a few VERY special ones.

We had Jerry Seinfeld’s 901 Porsche on display, Mike Sullivan’s 918 Spyder and enough other classic Porsche’s to be the envy of any Cars & Coffee. Factory Porsche race driver Patrick Long was also in attendance with his personal 964.

We had great food and drinks, along with a DJ, and we gave away a bunch of prizes, including four vouchers for the Porsche Experience Center!

We’ve assembled some great shots of the event, click the link to see them all!

Porsche South Bay

Pacific Porsche is now Porsche South Bay

Pacific Porsche is on the move, literally and figuratively! Did you know that Pacific Porsche has been part of the LAcarGUY family since 1999 and in our current location in Torrance since 2002? The short of it is, we have outgrown out current location. Since 2009 we have almost doubled the sales at Pacific Porsche and, with some coming announcements, we simply need more room to serve our clients!

As part of our move 8 miles up the road to Hawthorne, just off the 405, we will have 50,000 square feet of space for our showroom and service department. We are targeting the open date for the new location in early November.

To reflect our new location and the new reach we will have with the store, along with some very exciting announcements, we are rebranding Pacific Porsche to Porsche South Bay and the website address has changed as well to www.porschesouthbay.com as well.

We are very excited to show you what we are going to be doing with the store, it will have the latest in Porsche design and materials, in fact, we worked with Porsche North America and Porsche AG (i.e. the mother ship in Germany) in developing the look and feel of the new store.

We are going to have much more in the coming weeks about the store, the store design and everything that we are going to be able to offer you. We have been posting photos of the store on your Facebook page and our Instagram account, so, if you want to see the progress, make sure you are following us there.

We are very excited about the new store and the new name and very soon we are going to be able to share it all with you, we can’t wait to see what everyone’s reaction is.

Pacific Porsche Becomes the Official Partner for the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA Series

May 15, 2016 lacarguy Pacific Porsche, Porsche Tags: , ,

Pacific Porsche has long been a support of Porsche racing in the California area, now it has the great pleasure of being the official partner for the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA Series. That means that cup drivers will gain access to special service and supply perks from the company, as well as access to personal vehicles, since many of them drive Porsche cars as their street vehicles as well. The partnership is in place for the race season throughout 2016, and could continue further on in the future as well.

Mike Sullivan and Greg Franz

Mike Sullivan Enters the Race

Mike Sullivan, the owner of LAcarGUY, has a long history with racing. He’s participated in Vintage Racing for years and the Toyota Grand Prix in Long Beach, and now plans on taking himself to the tracks to actually compete against other fellow racers in the high performance Pirelli GT3 Cup events. It’s an exciting opportunity that will allow Pacific Porsche to offer even better customer service in the future, by giving many of its lead members a taste of fast-paced professional Porsche racing.

Pacific Porsche

Pacific Porsche is one of just 25 Porsche dealerships around the United States, and only one of two in the Los Angeles Area. It’s been in business since 1999, and is a highly reliable organization as proven through years of operation. LAcarGUY and Pacific Porsche in general is heavily involved in the local community and offers help to charity and important local events throughout the year.

The Partnership

With the partnership developed both Pacific Porsche and Competent Motorsport (the organizers of the Pirelli GT3 Cup) have something to gain. Pacific Porsche gets increased exposure and more experience with racing and taking care of racers. This can only help improve customer service and experience levels over time. Competent Motorsport gets a reliable supplier to help with important parts and exclusive inventory that isn’t easy to come by.

The Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA is on its 10th year of operation in 2016, and has seven different racing events scheduled for the 2016 season. It’s an exciting opportunity for everyone involved, and the partnership is one that could carry on for many more years in the future as well.

Green Tip of the Month

Get Your Kids Involved!

Hi everyone! May’s Green Tip of the Month is by Pacific Porsche’s Green Team Representative – Sarah Carbajal.
She has fun, easy-to-do recycling tips, apps and games for the family and kids.
All the links below are open for you – have fun!

Healthy habits start early. Get your kids excited and involved by making recycling a part of your childs way of life. My four year old has helped Heal the Bay, walked in charity events and has mastered sorting recyclables. She doesn’t know anything different, she is aware of the world around her and I find that to be a virtue. Here are some easy tips on incorporating a green way of living into your home.

Make your own reusable bags! Before you head out to the grocery store have your kids help create reusable tote bags. They are easy to make (no sewing), functional and eco-friendly. Follow this link to a quick and fun solution to plastic bags:

http://www.marthastewart.com/273484/no-sew-market-tote-bag

The “In and Out” Toy Rule: As a general rule whenever an occasion arise where lots of fun new toys are going to brought into our home my daughter must go through her old toys and donate some of them. This has become one of her favorite forms of recycling.

Limit the amount of time spent on electronics. This is the most difficult rule to enforce. With everything these days geared towards kids and video games children tend to lose their focus. I have found a few apps that teach children about recycling :

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/recycle-hero-toy-for-kids/id536072102?mt=8

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/recycling-truck/id433645198?mt=8

Let them sort! Kids learn the most by being hands on. Let them be in charge of sorting all of the recycling for your family. It’s the easiest way to help your child grasp the sometimes overwhelming concept of how recycling works.

Fun Facts:

One pound of recycled newspaper can be turned into six cereal boxes.

A glass bottle can take 40 centuries to be broken down if it’s not recycled.
