2018 Model-year Porsche vehicles are going to receive a number of enhancements that make them more worthwhile than ever before. Whether you’ve been wanting more power, different color options, or an enhanced media system, all those changes and more are coming to the 2018 model year vehicles. Here’s an overview of what you can expect from the next lineup of cars, pay close attention.
911 S and 911 Owners Get Power Bump
In 2018 911 S models are going to come with an optional performance kit that will increase overall power by 30 HP. This is an enhancement that current 911 owners will also be able to make use of, that is as long as they chose to get the Sport Chrono package at time of purchase. That means that 2017 Porsche that’s sitting in your garage can be even faster, you just have to be willing to shell out some money at the dealership to have the performance enhancement added in 2018.
In order to achieve this performance enhancement the vehicle will be equipped with upsized turbochargers as well as the Sports Chrono package, an enhanced brake cooking system, dynamic mounts for the engine, and a dual tailpipe exhaust system. Overall the cost should be approximately $12,350 for the added performance, and it’s going to be available for new 911, Carrera S, 911 Targa 4S, Carrera S and 4S models as well as the 911 S.
More Color Options
Not only will 2018 bring performance enhancements to Porsche vehicles, it also brings more interior and exterior color selections to choose from. You’ll have several additional colors to pick from, though some are completely model exclusive, like Palladium Metallic for the Cayenne, and Saffron Yellow Metallic for the 911.
Enhanced Media System
Vehicles that are available with the Porsche Connect service are going to benefit from the addition of many additional services. This includes things like in-car WiFi and LTE access to help make vehicles more connected overall.
All these changes are notably improving Porsche vehicles across the lineup in 2018, but some of the improvements, like the power boost pack will come at a cost. You’ll have to look through all the 2018 enhancements and decide if they’re worth the added cost or not when the time comes to make the purchase.
The recent Geneva Motor Show brought welcome news the Porsche faithful and enthusiasts, the “Drivers 911″ the 911 GT3 would once again be offered with a manual transmission!
In an ever increasing world of automation and complication, there comes a time and reason to unplug from it all and get back to basics, or at least as basic can get in this current day and age. When the 991 GT3 debuted it was hailed as the next great step, save for one thing, the lack of a manual transmission. The Porsche PDK is a superb transmission, and if the goal is to get around the race track in the quickest time, then there is no better tool to row through the gears. In the daily commute, stuck in traffic, the PDK also shines saving your left leg in stop and go traffic.
However, there are times when you want to row your own, to truly feel connected to the car and the driving experience, and for that, the best tool for the job is a manual transmission! If you wanted something close to the GT3 with a manual, you had to be lucky enough to get the 911R, but those were only offered to those who purchased the 918 Spyder, or, if you found one second hand, they started at $500,000 and went up quickly from there.
Porsche heard loud and clear that the faithful still wanted a manual gearbox and now they have responded. With the 991.2GT3 a six-speed manual returns attached to a 4.0 liter naturally-asperated flat six developing 500 horsepower and 339 lb/ft of torque. It wasn’t that long ago that 997 Turbo topped out at 450 horsepower, and now, the GT3 brings 500 naturally-asperated horsepower to the dance to sing that glorious song as it approaches it’s near 9,000 rpm redline.

It was a long hard road to get here, but it was worth it.
Not only does Porsche South Bay have a spectacular new home, we are now one of only four Porsche Classic Partner locations in the United States! To celebrate we held an open house, and over 700 people were in attendance for our 60’s themed party! We had an amazing display of classic Porsche’s including a few VERY special ones.
We had Jerry Seinfeld’s 901 Porsche on display, Mike Sullivan’s 918 Spyder and enough other classic Porsche’s to be the envy of any Cars & Coffee. Factory Porsche race driver Patrick Long was also in attendance with his personal 964.
We had great food and drinks, along with a DJ, and we gave away a bunch of prizes, including four vouchers for the Porsche Experience Center!

By now most people have heard about the Porsche Mission-E all-electric supercar that Porsche is working on. They know that the automaker is shooting for a 300+ mile range for the car, while making something that’s going to be a blast to drive and that’s going to be very quick. If Porsche can deliver on all these things it’s going to have a pretty successful vehicle on its hands, but the automaker isn’t content to just stop there. Porsche also plans on releasing a car that is upgrade-able over the air, and that might be capable of automated driving with a simple over the air update.
Over the Air Upgrades
Much like Tesla did with its Roadster, Porsche wants to be able to make enhancements to its Mission E with wireless software changes to the vehicle. It wants to be able to adjust the tune of the engine, increase or decrease power output in the future, and maybe add in additional tech features like improved automated driving features over time as well.
By simply turning your vehicle on, it could connect to the Internet and receive the updates that it needs to put new features into place using the existing technology. This is something that software companies do all the time today, but not something that is as common in automobiles currently. If Porsche can incorporate this feature into is Mission E, and we’re confident that the company can, buyers will be able to get more life out of the supercar before wanting to upgrade to the latest model.
Automated Driving Features
Porsche, once fully against automated driving, stated that it plans on releasing the Mission E with some self-driving features. For instance, the car might be able to pilot the driver through congested traffic on a straight road, and tackle other simple tasks like that that would otherwise be dull. The Mission E might come with pretty limited self-driving features, but over time as the tech improves, Porsche should be able to make software updates to the vehicle to make it more capable than before. Owners will notice their vehicle getting smarter, the media system getting new features and the vehicle improving over time. That’s the benefit of over-the-air updates, and it’s an exciting feature that Porsche owners could really benefit from.
Porsche is planning on releasing the Mission E in different power levels, so its possible that buyers will be able to change from one power level to the next with a paid update to the vehicle, but there’s no word if that’s going to be the case for the Mission E or not.
Porsche is betting big on this electric supercar and is sinking more than 1 billion Euros into research and development for it. The automaker is planning on selling 20,000 models each year, which would be significant for the luxury automaker, making it account for approximately 10 percent of all sales.
The features set to come with the Mission E are not set in stone, but so far the specs are exciting and something to look forward to. Serious Porsche fans that want to get into electric vehicles should seriously look at this option.With a 300 mile range and a 15 minute charge time the Mission E could be a convenient daily driver that replaces a gas-powered vehicle with ease.
Enthusiasts weren’t happy when the Porsche Macan was released, becasuse let’s be honest, a small crossover doesn’t seem fast or sporty. Of course Porsche proved most of those people wrong by showing the crossover off on the track. Even the base model came with a very capable V6 engine capable of burning out and tearing up the track. Now Porsche is releasing a less powerful Macan still that comes with a four-cylinder engine. That sounds pretty tame on the surface, but this turbocharged engine actually offers a lot of very real benefits to the vehicle and many Macan lovers are going to enjoy the new change, and even if you don’t like it the more powerful engines are still available.
A Four Cylinder Base
The latest Macan comes with a power drop courtesy of the four-cylinder base engine, but thanks to a very nice turbo setup, it still manages to give you 252 HP and 273 lb.-ft. of torque, giving you more than enough power to burn out at a stoplight, or to accidentally speed without even noticing that you’re doing it.
Opting for the smaller four-cylinder engine will help you save as much as $4,745 off the base price of the Macan versus the base from last year. It comes with a base price of $48,850, which is pretty affordable for a sporty Porsche crossover.
Though the Macan comes packed with less power than last year’s base model, it makes up for that decrease a bit by dropping its weight by 210 lbs. Those weight savings are all pretty much from the smaller engine too. The base model weighs in at just 3,902 lbs without additions.
That lower engine doesn’t just drop the Macan’s weight down, it curbs fuel usage as well. You can reasonably expect to get between 20 and 25 MPG while tooling around in the Macan, a nice bump up from the 17, 23 offered by last year’s model. When you consider that it comes packed with a 19.8 gallon fuel tank, you’ll realize that you can travel pretty darn far on a single tank of gas in this mid-sized SUV.
Overall it’s the same SUV, it just comes with less power, less weight and at a lower cost. There’s a lot to love about the latest Macan and it’s something to get excited about.
In a world with PDK dual-clutch transmissions it seems completely irrational to want a manual. After all these transmissions are better in every way possible. They’re faster and more efficient. They allow you to keep both hands firmly on the wheel, and they make it easier to go faster around a track. Each of those things are important to Porsche drivers, but there is still a large portion of those drivers that want to be able to control the shifting of the vehicle. For that reason Porsche is still incorporating manual transmissions into its vehicles, even though they don’t make any sense.
The 911 GT3 Comes with a Manual
To many Porsche owners the 911 GT3 is the crown jewel of enthusiast driving. It’s a sporty car that looks great, performs better and is engineered to take corners like a dream. It’s a beautiful piece of engineering and it’s a thrill to drive around. It’s the car that enthusiasts want to pick up above all else, and they want it for the experience. That’s exactly why Porsche is offering the GT3 with a manual transmission. The automaker understands the manual tranny is inferior to the PDK, but that it adds to the experience of some drivers. Porsche is in the business of offering experiences to enthusiasts, which is why the big Porsche centers exist around the world, and it’s why Porsche will continue to go out of its way to make the dreams of drivers come true.
The 911 GT3 RS will Not
Even though the GT3 is coming with a manual transmission, to the excitement of all those purists out there!, the GT3 RS will not have the option. Instead it comes equipped with just the PDK transmission. Porsche’s reasoning behind this decision is that there are different types of customers for the two vehicles. The stock GT3 is more of a purist, auto enthusiast group of drivers that just want the thrill of going fast around windy roads and driving a quality engineered sports car. The GT3 RS guys are the ones that want to beat up tracks and get the best possible lap times.
For the guys going for the best lap times the PDK is really the only option. A PDK is more efficient and a whole lot faster than a manual. Not only that, but it allows you to maintain better control while going around the track, and those are all pretty compelling reasons, even if operating a race car with a manual transmission is more satisfying to some drivers out there. For that reason there really isn’t any point to offering a manual transmission with the GT3 RS.
Even though it’s a bummer that the 911 GT3 RS isn’t being offered with a manual, after reading the explanation behind the decision we get it. Still, it’s pretty hard to complain when Porsche is cool enough to make the 911 GT3, a potent sports car with 500 HP and a flat six engine, with a manual transmission that offers that silky-smooth shifting satisfaction so many drivers are looking for.
Resale value is an important consideration for many auto buyers that don’t plan on keeping their vehicles forever. Buying a car with good solid resale value potential is a good way to lower the cost of ownership markedly, and it’s something that savvy car buyers all pay attention to. If you’re concerned with resale value at all it makes sense to pay attention to the annual report put out by Kelley Blue Book. The Best Resale Value award is given out in different categories. There’s an award for the best Brand and the Best Luxury brand, and there are also awards for individual vehicle models. Porsche managed to take the top luxury spot this year, marking Porsche vehicles as a good solid investment when it comes to a luxury car.
Porsche Takes the Top Spot
This year Porsche managed to achieve the highest rating in the luxury segment. Porsche received the Luxury Brand Resale Value award, proving that the brand is capable of holding its value over time, and that Porsche vehicles are reliable purchases when you want to get as much back out of them in the end. There’s a booming used luxury market, and Porsche vehicles are at the top of it all.
How Awards are Given out
The awards given out by Kelley Blue Book are based on the companies research throughout the year. The company relies on a group of analysts to come up with reliable value projections for the vehicles, and that information is compared to come up with the vehicles most likely to hold onto their resale value. Porsche models were more likely to hold value than most other luxury models this year, making Porsche vehicles a solid recommendation for the luxury enthusiast that plans on selling off their vehicle after a few years.
The Porsche Macan
If winning the overall luxury brand award was not enough, Porsche also managed to take the luxury SUV segment with its Macan. This low-cost Porsche vehicle holds its value very well and is a solid investment if you’re in the market for a quality luxury SUV. Porsche fans would do well to consider the compact SUV that drives like it should be on a track.

Porsche fans around the world were stunned when the automaker came out with the first Cayman GT4. After all it was a high-powered mid-engine vehicle that was more affordable than many of the 911 variants while being just as powerful, more track capable and a blast to drive around. Most enthusiasts always believed that Porsche would gimp the Cayman in order to keep the more expensive 911 models at the top, but that doesn’t seem to be the case at all. In fact, Porsche has plans to make an even more powerful version of the Cayman GT4. The car would be dubbed the Cayman GT4 RS.
The Cayman GT4 RS
While Porsche isn’t officially making the vehicle yet, there have been recent publications that suggest Porsche is planning out a Cayman GT4 equipped with a monstrous 4.0 liter flat-six engine. It would be dubbed the Cayman GT4 RS and be an absolute track monster. This is an expected improvement to the Cayman GT4 because recent testing showed that the 718 Cayman S can complete laps at Nurburgring just as fast as the GT4 when set up with the same tires. That’s a pretty big deal when you’re considering the 718 is so much more affordable. In order to handle this issue, Porsche wants to make the GT4 even more powerful so that it can maintain an edge over the less powerful 718 on the track.
A Major Performance Boost
Whether or not this more powerful GT4 is going to come about is still speculation, but the engine that’s going to be used in the new vehicle is even more speculation. There are a few 4.0 liter flat six options to choose from, all of which are impressively powerful. The car could make use of the 430 HP engine that’s currently used in the GT3 RS, or it could make use of the newer engine that’s coming from the RSR car and already heading to the next GT3. Either option is going to be a big jump up from the 385 HP currently offered by the GT4 though.
No matter what type of engine this next car gets, one thing is clear. If you’re interested in mid-engined vehicles, the more powerful Cayman GT4 RS could be the ultimate vehicle to get for your garage. It should set some records if its released and will be a very exciting ride to take for sure. We’ll just have to wait to see if Porsche actually intends to make this lightweight beast, and what sort of improvements will actually be destined to go into the final version of the car.
Porsche recently made one of its first hybrid sports performance vehicles available for testing, and the reviews are impressive. The Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is a capable vehicle that’s lightning fast, highly efficient and a blast to drive around. Sure it’s expected to come with a considerable price tag, but when you want it all this is the best way to get it.
Four Driving Modes
The 2018 Panamera 4 E-Hybrid comes fitted with four different drive modes to give you more control over how the vehicle handles depending on what you’re looking for. It has the standard Sport and Sport+ modes when you’re looking for that added bit of performance and power. When you want more efficiency there is also the E-Power mode that makes use of electric power alone, this allows you to travel around without burning up any fuel and is a good way to take short trips. Finally there is the Auto mode. This is designed to maximize your efficiency for longer trips and it dynamically switches between partial electric, full electric, full gas and a mixture of them all to create the most efficient driving conditions possible.
Dynamic Mode Switching
One of the coolest features of this Porsche hybrid is the dynamic way it allows you to switch between full battery operation and the standard hybrid drive. The way that you press down the throttle gives you control of whether or not the gas engine runs at all. Press down the peddle lightly and don’t go past a certain point and you’ll only run on battery power alone for as long as you can. Press the pedal down farther and the engine kicks on and you get an immediate boost of power.
The car starts out in battery-only mode all the time, and it makes it very easy to engage the engine when you need the extra bit of power. This is particualrly handy when you have to do something like merge onto the highway and you need a little more oomph, or for when you want to pass someone that’s been going slow the whole way to work.
Its a Thrilling Ride
The Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid isn’t just an over-sized efficient hybrid Porsche, it’s also a speed machine that is way too easy to tear through roads with. Flip to Sport, or even better, Sport+ mode and you’ll be blasted back in your seat from all the acceleration that becomes available. The car keeps the battery topped up throughout the trip so that you can access an added boost of full electric acceleration at very low speeds, and it keeps the engine engaged at all times so you have full access to all 462 HP. The car is very fast and it feels considerably smaller than it really is. You can take corners at speed without experiencing much body roll at all, and the steering is light but precise. The 8-speed PDK transmission travels through the gears smoothly, and the car hits a top speed of 172 MPH if’ you’re willing to stomp on the accelerator for long enough.
With a 0 to 60 time of around 4.4 seconds, efficiency ratings in the high 20’s and precise handling, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid really is the best of everything.
The 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet is an insanely fast rear-wheel drive vehicle, and probably one of the fastest convertibles that you can get in a luxury car today, without going up to super luxury car prices. It’s a nice looking vehicle, it’s very fast off the line and it handles so nicely for a convertible.
While Porsche maintains that its 2017 911 Carrera S Cabriolet can go from 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds independent testing has found these claims to be very modest. Outside testing shows that the Porsche is capable of making the sprint from 0 to 60 in just 3.2 seconds. That’s insanely fast for a car in this price range, and it actually beats out a whole slew of other impressive vehicles going off of those figures. Cars like the BMW i8 and the Jaguar F-Type R simply can’t keep up with the vehicle, and that’s pretty darned impressive.
This exclusive variation of the 911 Carrera doesn’t have a very exclusive look, which can be a good thing for drivers that don’t want to draw too much attention to themselves. The car looks very similar to most other Carrera models out on the road, so if you live in an area where Porsche Carreras are common, you probably won’t draw much attention to yourself. Sure there is a unique fascia design and a sportier set of inboard exhaust tailpipes, but other than that, there isn’t much to clue people in on the powerhouse that you’re driving around.
Deliciously Powerful with a Rough Edgy Sound
This turbo-charged 911 Carrera S Cabriolet comes packed with a 3.0 liter turbocharged engine delivering a whopping 420 HP and 325 lb.-ft. of torque. Not only that but peak torque is available at just 1700 rpm, making it exceptionally fast off the line. The car comes with nice grippy tires and holds onto the road with 1.00 g of lateral grip, making it a very solid starter overall.
A common concern for old-school Porsche fans is that the vehicle won’t have that throaty sound that 911 models are known for when they’re fitted with beefy naturally aspirated engines. As a tester of the latest 911 Carrera I can honestly say that that’s not an issue. Not only does it have a nice throaty sound, but it’s even easier to fully enjoy the noise with the top down on the vehicle, which is how much people will drive it around.
The Convertible Cost
While the convertible version of the 911 Carrera is a top quality product, it’s significantly more expensive than the coupe version. In order to make the upgrade you’ll have to add an additional $12,300 to the base price, putting the total at $144,805 overall. That’s a pretty steep price to pay for a powerful 911, and it opens up quite a few options worth considering. Even still, it’s hard saying no to such a high level of power, or the exciting driving dynamics that are offered by the 2017 911 Carrera Cabriolet.
